Job summary

Gateway Engineers is a civil engineering firm with ~240 staff across Pittsburgh, Butler, and Raleigh. This full-time, in-person role focuses on structural Revit drafting and BIM coordination, with opportunities for design reviews and document management.

The ideal candidate will have an associate or bachelor’s in CAD/Drafting and 3+ years in structural drafting, plus Revit proficiency. AutoCAD/Civil 3D and BIM software experience are a plus.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor of Science in CAD/Drafting/Design Technology or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years structural drafting/design experience preferred with portfolio of plan/detail development.
• Proficiency in Revit Structure; AutoCAD/Civil 3D a plus.
• Familiarity with AISC, ACI, and TMS detailing conventions a plus.
• Navisworks/BIM 360/ACC/Bluebeam experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop structural Revit models and drawing sets from architectural models including foundations, framing, sections, details, and notes.
• Lay out gravity framing systems with sizing and coordination performed by the project engineer.
• Coordinate typical details and connections using company standards and references.
• Identify applicable structural systems (steel, concrete, masonry, wood) for each project type.
• Support BIM/Revit coordination across multidisciplinary models and resolve clashes.
• Participate in model reviews for constructability and maintainability.
• Maintain drawing sets through revisions, permit comments, and RFIs.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of or be willing to learn:

• Develop structural Revit models and drawing sets from architectural backgrounds and models with minimal markup — foundation plans, framing plans, sections, details, and general notes
• Lay out gravity framing systems (joist/beam/girder/column spacing, bearing conditions, deck spans) using sound rough-proportioning judgment, with member sizing and final design performed by the project engineer
• Select and adapt appropriate typical details and basic connections (bearing, shear, base plates, embeds, ledgers) from company standards and industry references, and recognize where a project-specific detail is needed
• Recognize which structural systems are applicable to a given project type — steel, cast-in-place and precast concrete, masonry, cold-formed and conventional wood framing — and set up plans accordingly
• Read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings and specifications, and identify coordination conflicts, missing information, and constructability issues early
• Support design-phase clash detection and BIM/Revit coordination workflows across multidisciplinary models
• Participate in model-based design reviews, including constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews
• Maintain drawing sets through design revisions, permit comments, and construction-phase changes (RFIs, as-builts)
• Organize and coordinate technical documents consistent with company BIM/Revit and drawing standards, and perform quality control checks on your own work before engineer review

This opportunity requires:

Education

• Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Aided Drafting, Drafting & Design Technology, or related field — or equivalent experience in structural Revit/BIM production
• 3+ years of structural drafting/design experience preferred, with a portfolio or work samples demonstrating structural plan and detail development
• Proficiency in Revit Structure required; AutoCAD and Civil 3D a plus
• Familiarity with AISC, ACI, and TMS detailing conventions a plus
• Experience with Navisworks, BIM 360/ACC, or Bluebeam a plus
