Job summary

We Are The People Team in New York is seeking an experienced Revenue & Management Accountant to own the financial lifecycle of client projects. You will partner with project leads and senior management to protect margins and deliver clear commercial insight.

The role requires a qualified accountant with 5+ years of relevant experience, strong job costing skills, US GAAP knowledge, and the ability to work in a fast-paced agency environment. Hybrid NYC-based role with US work authorization.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with professional designation (CPA or CMA preferred).
• At least five years of accounting experience in a project- or client-based business.
• Strong hands-on experience with job costing and project accounting.
• Experience producing management accounts and managing month-end close.
• Solid understanding of revenue recognition, accruals, deferred revenue and WIP.

Responsibilities

• Manage revenue accounting, including revenue recognition and WIP.
• Oversee job costing, ensure costs, time and expenses are recorded accurately.
• Produce monthly management accounts and balance-sheet reconciliations.
• Manage month-end and year-end close activities.
• Monitor project budgets, profitability, utilization and margins.
• Provide financial insight to guide commercial decisions.

We're working with a high-growth, award-winning global human insights and market research agency looking to hire an experienced Revenue & Management Accountant into its New York team.

The business works with major global brands across multiple sectors and markets, combining strong research with creative thinking and clear, commercially useful storytelling. This is a hands-on role at the heart of the agency, responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective job-cost management and clear commercial insight across our client portfolio.

The Role

You will manage the financial lifecycle of client projects, working closely with project leads, client teams and senior management. Alongside core accounting responsibilities, you will help the business understand project performance, protect margins and make well-informed commercial decisions.

This role would suit a qualified accountant who enjoys combining robust financial control with practical business partnership in a collaborative, project-based environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage revenue accounting, including revenue recognition, accrued and deferred revenue, and work in progress.
• Oversee job costing and ensure project costs, time and expenses are recorded accurately.
• Produce monthly management accounts, balance-sheet reconciliations and supporting analysis.
• Manage month-end and year-end close activities.
• Monitor project budgets, profitability, utilization and margins.
• Partner with project and client teams to review project performance and identify potential financial risks.
• Support forecasting, budgeting and cash-flow planning.
• Review client contracts and project arrangements for their accounting and commercial implications.
• Oversee billing schedules and support the timely and accurate production of client invoices.
• Provide clear financial reporting and commercial insight to senior management.
• Maintain effective financial controls, policies and processes.
• Support external audits and tax or regulatory reporting as required.
• Identify opportunities to improve systems, reporting and financial processes.

What we are looking for:

• A qualified accountant with a relevant professional designation, such as CPA or CMA.
• At least five years’ relevant accounting experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with job costing in a project- or client-based business.
• Experience producing management accounts and managing month-end close.
• A sound understanding of revenue recognition, accruals, deferred revenue and work in progress.
• Strong Excel and financial-systems skills.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization and analytical ability.
• Confidence communicating financial information to non-finance colleagues.
• The ability to work collaboratively while taking ownership of deadlines and deliverables.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Previous experience in an agency or consultancy background, that is fast paced and evolving.
• Experience using Paprika agency-management software and Xero would be an advantage but not essential.
• Experience improving finance processes or implementing new reporting.
• Familiarity with US GAAP and project-based revenue recognition.
