Job description

Finance Manager | Independent Creative Agency | Music & Entertainment

A rapidly growing creative services company is looking for a Finance Manager to join its team. This newly created role will be the first dedicated in-house finance and accounting hire and will have the opportunity to build the financial infrastructure of a growing business from the ground up.

Reporting directly to the Executive team, this person will take ownership of the company's day-to-day accounting and financial operations while helping leadership bring greater structure and visibility to the business. The role will go beyond traditional accounting, partnering with leadership on budgeting, profitability, hiring decisions, project economics, and other important business decisions.

The company operates in a highly collaborative and creative environment and works with well-known brands and organizations on a variety of high-profile content and experiential projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both the technical side of accounting and being a true business partner within a dynamic, entrepreneurial organization.

The company is based in Brooklyn and operates primarily in-office, with some flexibility for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:
  • Own the company's day-to-day accounting and general ledger activity, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close
  • Manage the company's financial activity within QuickBooks and ensure the books are accurate, timely, and properly maintained
  • Build and maintain budgets, forecasts, project-level financial tracking, and other reporting that gives leadership greater visibility into the financial performance of the business
  • Partner with the CEO and COO to evaluate business decisions, including hiring plans, major expenditures, project economics, pricing, and other investments
  • Develop financial analysis that helps leadership understand the costs, risks, and potential returns associated with different business opportunities
  • Establish more formal accounting, budgeting, reporting, and financial processes as the company continues to scale
  • Improve project-level financial tracking and help establish greater visibility into revenue, costs, profitability, and cash flow
  • Coordinate with external bookkeeping and payroll providers while taking increasing ownership of the company's internal financial operations
  • Translate financial information into clear, practical insights for business leaders and team members who may not have a finance or accounting background
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial controls, systems, processes, and overall business efficiency
  • Support broader strategic and operational initiatives as the finance function develops
Requirements:
  • 3–6+ years of progressive accounting and/or finance experience, ideally within a creative agency, production company, professional services business, or similarly project-based environment
  • Strong understanding of core accounting principles, including general ledger accounting, AP, AR, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks is required
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, or other FP&A activities is highly preferred
  • Experience tracking the financial performance of individual projects, clients, or engagements is a strong plus
  • Ability to take ownership of the accounting function while also thinking beyond the numbers and understanding the broader business
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to turn financial information into practical business recommendations
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with creative, operational, and executive stakeholders
  • Comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment where processes are still being built and responsibilities may evolve over time
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a willingness to get into the weeds when necessary

The above salary range represents the company's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible base compensation range at the time of posting and is not reflective of the total compensation package, which may also include benefits, equity and other non-cash incentives.
