Job summary

Global Medical Response is seeking a Revenue Cycle – Authorization Specialist for our On-Site Phoenix, AZ operation. This role focuses on managing authorizations for non-emergency transports, coordinating with Communications, Operations, payors and billing to ensure paperwork is obtained around the time of transport.

The successful candidate will review transports to determine payor requirements, request and obtain authorizations, and help sustain compliant processes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year work experience in medical billing – prior authorization required
  • Minimum typing speed of 50 WPM required
  • Work experience with computer programs and software required
  • Work experience in medical industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work with Communications to provide guidance on non-emergency transports and required paperwork and/or authorizations
  • Review non-emergency transports to identify appropriate payor and determine if an authorization is required
  • Follow established processes to request and/or obtain authorizations for non-emergency transports
  • Work with Communications to ensure adequate and appropriate levels of service are dispatched for non-emergency transports
  • Manage Authorization work bin to ensure payor requirements are met
  • Process customer complaints quickly by receiving, investigating, redirecting or, resolving the issue
  • Convey an attitude of intolerance for unprofessional behavior
  • Develop and sustain excellent working relationships with AMR professionals (e.g., Operations, Business Development, IT and Finance), as well as with the Company’s clients, payors, consultants, banks and financial intermediaries and government agencies

Revenue Cycle – Authorization Specialist

Location: On-Site – Phoenix, AZHourly Compensation: $18-$20 DOE

Work Schedule: Full-Time

Shift Hours - Thu, Fri, & Sat, 6am-6pm and every other We 6am-6pm

Position Summary

The Authorization Specialist works within the Transport Authorization Department (TAD) and is responsible for authorization management of non-emergency transports. Authorization Specialists work with Communications, Operations, payors, and billing to ensure appropriate paperwork is obtained before or around the time of the patient’s transport.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with Communications to provide guidance on non-emergency transports and required paperwork and/or authorizations.
  • Review non-emergency transports to identify appropriate payor and determine if an authorization is required.
  • Follow established processes to request and/or obtain authorizations for non-emergency transports.
  • Work with Communications to ensure adequate and appropriate levels of service are dispatched for non-emergency transports.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year work experience in medical billing – prior authorization required
  • Minimum typing speed of 50 WPM required
  • Work experience with computer programs and software required
  • Work experience in medical industry preferred
Knowledge and Skills
  • General knowledge of medical and insurance industry terminology preferred
  • Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid guidelines related to ambulance billing preferred
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley and other critical governmental regulations within one (1) month of hire date is required
  • Maintain working knowledge of various tools including but not limited to basic Microsoft Office software, QWERTY keyboard use, basic computer function required
Education/Licensing/Certification
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • EMT certification/licensure or medical experience preferred
