Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington is seeking a proactive store supervisor to lead daily retail operations and a team of donation attendants, processors, and sales associates. You will oversee cash handling, customer service, and adherence to store policies while driving community impact and operational excellence.

The role emphasizes coaching staff, maintaining store standards, and collaborating with the store manager to ensure smooth operations and safety throughout the shift.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least 6 months of supervisory experience.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Reading and math skills at or above an 11th grade level.
• Ability to bend and lift 40–50 pounds frequently.
• Stand for prolonged periods of time (up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift).
• Previous cashier experience.
• Basic working knowledge of computer applications and the internet.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the store manager with the overall operation of the retail store.
• Assist in compliance and enforcement of company policy and standards.
• Perform daily administrative/clerical functions of store operations and cash transactions.
• Monitor sales transactions and ensure proper procedures are followed by staff.
• Maintain the general appearance of store and premises to Goodwill standards.
• Help enforce store safety and security procedures.
• Assist in settling customer complaints.
• Provide input for interviews and performance evaluations.
• Make bank deposits.
• Open and close the store as needed.
• Assist in supervising and training retail staff.
• Instruct workers to develop their full potential and maintain staffing levels.
• Monitor time and attendance system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• 1. Assists the store manager with the overall operation of the retail store.
• 2. Assists the store manager in the compliance and enforcement of company policy and standards.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• 4. Assists during the interviews and instructs workers in such a manner as to develop their full working potential.
• 5. Assists with maintain proper staffing levels.
• 6. Assists with monitoring the time and attendance system.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has supervisory responsibility for the retail staff including the donation attendants, processors, and sales associates.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• 1. High school diploma or equivalent and at least 6 months of supervisory experience. Successful completion of both GGW's Aspiring Managers and Employ Excellence may be substituted for this requirement.
• 2. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
