Job summary

Builders FirstSource in Alaska is seeking a capable retail store operations associate to oversee daily sales activities, quotes, material take-offs, purchase orders, pricing, and timely product delivery to support aggressive sales goals.

You will supervise and train staff, ensure accurate signage and stock, manage inventory levels, protect assets, and handle customer issues; the role requires strong math, software skills, and adherence to safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and five years retail or sales experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong communication and math skills; ability to read moderately complex instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assists in daily operations of retail sales, quotes/estimates, material take-offs, generating purchase orders, pricing, and product delivery.
• Maintains quality of retail floor including signage, proper pricing, inventory level and promotional displays.
• Coordinates product knowledge training to sales personnel and customers.
• Ensures all credit and check cashing procedures have been followed.
• Assists with compliance for loss prevention program, including security, safety and maintenance of equipment, vehicles and property.
• Investigates and resolves customer issues regarding order processing, deliveries, system inventory, pricing discrepancies and determines corrective action.
• Prepares purchase orders to ensure adequate inventory and assists with reports regarding sales, inventory and schedules.

PURPOSE

Assists with overseeing and may direct the daily activities of the retail store operations ensuring a high level of service to the customer with a focus on meeting sales goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists in the daily operations of retail sales, quotes/estimates, material take-offs, generating purchase orders, pricing, and product delivery.

• Maintains quality of retail floor including signage, proper pricing, inventory selection and level and promotional displays, verifying special advertised merchandise is in stock and properly signed and priced.

• Coordinates product knowledge training to sales personnel and customers.

• Ensures all credit and check cashing procedures have been followed.

• Assists with compliance for loss prevention program, including security, safety and maintenance of equipment, vehicles and property.

• Investigates and resolves customer issues regarding order processing, deliveries, system inventory, pricing discrepancies and determine appropriate corrective action.

• May prepare purchase orders to ensure adequate inventory specifying type, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates.
• Assists with appropriate reports regarding sales, inventory and schedules and works with management to improve work flow, simplify reporting procedures and/or implements cost reduction.

• Opens and closes store as scheduled.

• Leads and directs employees including assigning, monitoring and reviewing work progress and accuracy, providing guidance, addressing escalated issues and training less experienced team members. May provide input on the performance of assigned employees to management.

• Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.

• Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and five (5) years retail or sales experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMPETENCIES

• Working knowledge of company products and building industry
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong math skills
• Aptitude in reading and understanding moderately complex instructions or drawings
• Broad computer knowledge including Point-of-Sales (POS) equipment
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) program

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

• Subject to both typical office environment and outside locations with temperature and weather variations.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds.
• Frequent standing and walking involved for extended periods of time.
