Job summary

Roland is launching a flagship retail experience in Chelsea, NY and seeks a Retail Specialist to guide customers through gear and education opportunities. Roland is launching a first‑of‑its‑kind flagship retail experience in the heart of New York City, and we’re looking for a passionate, people‑first Retail Specialist to help bring it to life. As a global leader in electronic musical instruments and creative technology, Roland is redefining retail with a space built on inspiration, expert guidance, and real connection. This is more than a store—it’s a destination for musicians, creators, and fans to explore, learn, and create.

Employment Type: Full Time (40 hrs/week; Monday‑Sunday availability required)

Location: Chelsea, NY

Key Responsibilities
  • Sales and Customer Experience
    • Deliver personalized, high‑energy experiences that connect people with the right gear for their goals, budget, and creative journey.
    • Drive sales through expertise, authenticity, follow‑through, and a genuine passion for music and technology.
    • Build a loyal community of musicians, producers, educators, and creators through meaningful relationships and exceptional service.
    • Own the customer journey from first conversation to post‑purchase support.
  • Product Demonstration and Education
    • Deliver hands‑on demos across Roland's lineup of digital pianos, synths, electronic drums, guitar products, and pro audio/video solutions.
    • Translate technical features into real‑life benefits, helping musicians understand what the gear can do for their music, workflow and creative goals.
    • Stay current on new product launches, firmware updates and industry trends to be the expert people trust for insight and advice.
  • In‑Store Experience and Merchandising
    • Maintain a premium showroom that is engaging, functional and inspiring.
    • Support artist demonstrations, product launches, workshops, and hands‑on experiences that build excitement and community.
    • Create an environment where all musicians, producers, creators and fans feel welcome, energized and eager to explore what is possible.
  • Reporting and Operations
    • Capture customer interactions, track leads and follow‑ups in CRM tools.
    • Provide insights from the floor to management, including customer feedback, product trends and competitive observations.
    • Collaborate with store team colleagues to deliver a seamless, consistent, and exceptional customer experience.
Experience and Background
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in retail sales, music retail, or a related customer‑facing role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of musical instruments and music technology, particularly within the company’s product ecosystem.
  • Experience as a musician, producer, DJ, sound engineer and/or music educator is strongly preferred.
  • Strong desire to be familiar with New York’s music scene and culture, enabling authentic communication with local musicians.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage customers across a wide range of experience levels.
  • Consultative customer‑first approach to sales with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
  • Strong product demonstration skills and confidence to perform in a live retail environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team while also taking individual ownership of results.
  • Organized, reliable and detail‑oriented with strong time‑management skills.
  • Comfortable using CRM systems and digital reporting tools.
  • Access to a reliable smart device for reporting and communication.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the store for extended periods in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Frequently perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and safely climbing ladders or step stools.
  • Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling merchandise and equipment up to 50 lbs (with or without assistance).
  • Use manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate POS systems, handheld devices, and read labels, screens, and store materials.
  • Navigate crowded sales floors/stockrooms and move carts, racks, and equipment as needed.
