Overview
As a Retail Sales Specialist, you’ll take center stage in delivering a dynamic, engaging experience for every Wayfair customer. Blending your retail know-how with proactive sales strategies, you’ll empower customers to make confident buying decisions while driving team performance and store success. You'll lead by example, offering tailored product guidance, mastering tools like CRM and design software, and supporting the development of your teammates.
Salary Range: $20.00 per hour
NOTE: The hourly rate is a fixed entry rate for this position and applies to all new hires. While our system may display a pay range, this role’s starting rate is non-negotiable. Future pay increases are determined by performance, growth, and time in role, in accordance with our compensation policy.
What Does a Retail Sales Specialist Do?
- Drive Sales & Build Store Culture: Collaborate with Sales Floor Managers and Department Leaders to foster a high-energy sales culture that celebrates wins and drives results.
- Deliver Results with Agility: Take ownership of individual and team KPIs, driving productivity and consistently exceeding sales targets.
- Train & Develop Others: Act as a peer coach by training team members on selling strategies, service standards, and product knowledge to ensure a consistent customer experience.
- Always Be Selling (ABS): Use clientele tools, CRM, and design applications to nurture customer relationships and secure both immediate and future sales.
- Promote Exceptional Service: Lead by example on the sales floor, modeling how to ask thoughtful questions, build trust, and create personalized experiences for every customer.
- Become a Product Expert: Leverage a deep understanding of Wayfair’s in-store and online assortment to help customers find the right solution, every time.
- Collaborate on Store Operations: Support operational excellence by assisting with floor sets, restocks, substitutions, and maintaining a welcoming environment.
- Demonstrate Reliability: Show up ready to lead and support the team. Communicate proactively about any unexpected absences or scheduling needs.
- Operate as “One Team”: Cross-train across key store functions, including sales and back-of-house operations, and flex to support customers, teammates, store needs and peak business periods.
You’ll Thrive In This Role If You Have
- Leadership Experience: 1–3 years of experience motivating a team to meet sales goals in a retail environment.
- Sales Expertise: 1+ year in a retail sales role with a strong track record of meeting quotas or KPIs. Experience in specialty or high-touch sales is a plus.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Tech Proficiency: Comfortable learning and using CRM tools, mobile devices, POS systems, and Google Suite or Microsoft Office.
- Customer Service Skills: Exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities, even in fast-paced or high-pressure situations.
- Adaptability & Focus: Skilled at juggling priorities while maintaining accuracy, organization, and a strong customer-first mindset.
Additional Physical And Environmental Requirements
- Physical Activity: Frequent standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms; occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, and crawling.
- Mobility & Movement: Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching throughout the day.
- Lifting Ability: Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs independently on a regular basis. Some projects may involve heavier items, which must be managed with proper assistance or equipment.
- Vision Requirements: Includes close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Temperature Flexibility: Comfortable in environments with varying temperature conditions.
- Noise Tolerance: Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels and physical activity.
- Safety Awareness: Minimal exposure to workplace or environmental hazards—must adhere to all safety protocols.
