Job summary

Elephants Delicatessen, a locally owned Portland company since 1979, is hiring for a part-time to full-time, on-call role across Portland-area locations. The position offers hourly pay with tips, flexible shifts from early morning to evening, and the chance to join a team that values hospitality and quality from-scratch food.

Responsibilities include guest service, cash handling, food prep, beverage service, and maintaining a clean, safe kitchen and dining area.

Qualifications

• Barista experience preferred but not required.
• Food Handler’s card or ServSafe certification.
• OLCC certification.
• Genuine passion for hospitality and team development.
• Reliability, accountability, and a collaborative mindset.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Reliable personal vehicle for travel between deli locations.
• Ability to stand 8+ hours with occasional lifting up to 25 lb.

• Deliver warm, helpful customer service and greet guests.
• Handle cash and customer transactions accurately.
• Heat, serve, and hold food at proper temperatures per health codes.
• Stock and maintain sales floor, displays, and service areas.
• Prepare espresso drinks, teas, specialty drinks, and alcoholic beverages as needed.
• Set up and break down kitchen lines and grill stations.
• Prep food according to pars and proper storage, labeling, sanitation.

$24.50 - $27.50/hour ($17.50/hour + tips, which average an additional $5-$7/hour)

Schedule

This is a part-time to full-time, on-call position with shifts assigned based on business needs. Complete open availability is required for all days, with hours ranging from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Employees must be willing to work at least 64 hours per pay period.

Location & Transportation

This role can be scheduled at any of our retail locations. Reliable transportation is required.

What You’ll Do

• Set up and break down kitchen lines and grill stations.
• Prep food according to pars and follow proper food storage, labeling, sanitation, and hygiene standards.
• Assist with dishwashing, bussing tables, sweeping, mopping, cleaning equipment, disposing of trash and recycling, and maintaining a clean work area.
• Work at multiple locations across the Portland area.
• Communicate waste, equipment repair needs, and operational concerns to supervisors.
