Whether you are helping a guest choose a piece of authentic local Indigenous jewelry, explaining the background of a hand-crafted art piece, or guiding a family toward a book or toy that reminds them of the animals they just met, you will help create a meaningful memory of their trip to Arizona.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; Part-time (up to 16 hours per week)
Starting Salary: $17.52 per hour (initial step). Position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The Guest Services Assistant-Retail provides outstanding service and plays an integral role in contributing to the mission of the Arizona‑Sonora Desert Museum. The position is flexible and accommodates ever-changing business needs.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months to one-year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate with the general public using guest friendly language.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with challenges involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
General knowledge of retail POS and/or CRM systems or the ability to learn and develop functional use of systems.

Thorough knowledge of retail operations, guest service, sales through service, and cash handling skills.
Primarily an office and retail store setting. Occasional exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions. Moderate noise levels.
