Job summary

South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) is hiring a Retail Enforcement Compliance Officer to determine enforcement actions and craft Consent Orders, Administration Orders, and Suspensions for retail food establishments. You will review referrals, issue enforcement orders, and provide regulatory guidance to industry and staff.

The role requires knowledge of state and federal food laws, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly.

Qualifications

• Knowledge/Experience in food, sanitation, food safety, or in the food service industry.
• Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal food laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Receiving and reviewing enforcement referrals.
• Creating enforcement orders accurately based on regulation 61-25 and state laws.
• Providing programmatic and technical assistance to the Retail Food Safety program staff.
• Maintaining high level of customer service with external customers and program staff.
• Providing programmatic consultation to the food service industry, personnel, and other interested persons.
• Tracking and completing enforcement orders, obtaining signatures, and processing fines.
• Gathering requested FOIA documentation.
• Maintaining tracking spreadsheets related to enforcement orders and chronic violators.
• Providing reports to legal counsel and management regarding permits suspension or revocation of permits.

Bachelor's degree in natural/physical sciences

Associate’s degree + 2 years environmental health experience

High school diploma + 4 years environmental health or related experience

Valid state driver’s license
