Job summary

Morgan Stanley's Equity Research team in New York seeks an Analyst/Associate to cover Hardlines, Broadlines, and Food Retail. You’ll build models, translate data into research, and engage with investors to present differentiated stock calls.

You will write notes, collaborate with IR and management, and use AI-enabled methods while maintaining rigor and accuracy. Compensation includes base pay with a broader incentive package.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of equity research, investment banking, or capital markets experience.
• Advanced Excel proficiency required.
• Strong written and verbal communication; client-facing ability.
• PowerPoint skills; Python a plus.
• CFA designation or progress toward CFA preferred.
• Interest in retail, consumer behavior and market trends.
• Ability to use AI-enabled tools while maintaining rigor.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain earnings, valuation, and industry models.
• Translate data into insightful research reports with clear debates.
• Write research reports for initiations, results, and updates.
• Develop relationships with investor relations and management.
• Respond to institutional investors with in-depth analysis.
• Support sales and trading with sector analysis.
• Adopt AI-enabled tools to speed up research while preserving quality.
• Conduct industry diligence through surveys and channel checks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on larger reports.
