Job summary

Morgan Stanley is seeking an experienced Associate to join the Consumer Equity Research team in New York. The role focuses on building and updating financial models, developing industry studies, and delivering clear investment calls while engaging directly with institutional clients.

The successful candidate will show strong Excel skills, a genuine interest in public markets, and the ability to apply AI-enabled research tools while maintaining rigorous data integrity and high-quality analysis.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of professional experience in equity research or investment banking.
• Proven experience using Excel to build and maintain three-statement financial models; advanced Excel proficiency is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear investment debates and client-facing discussions.
• Demonstrated interest in public markets and curiosity about what drives stock performance, investor debates, and valuation.
• Comfort adopting AI-enabled tools with judgment to verify outputs and protect data integrity.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to adapt quickly and work well under pressure.
• High EQ, personal drive, energy, creativity, curiosity, organization, and teamwork.
• Experience with Python is a plus but not required.
• CFA designation or progress toward CFA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain financial and industry models, leveraging skills in accounting, finance, and economics.
• Translate company, industry, consumer, and market data into insightful research reports with clear investment debates and actionable stock calls.
• Develop and maintain relationships with management of covered companies and industry specialists.
• Engage with institutional investors by responding to in-depth questions and bespoke requests.
• Support internal sales and trading teams with timely analysis of sector breaking news.
• Adopt AI-enabled research tools to accelerate information gathering while maintaining rigor and source verification.
• Conduct industry diligence and primary research through surveys, calls, and channel checks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce larger industry reports.
