Job summary

Trading Card Market in Missouri is seeking an experienced Retail Buyer to purchase collectible cards directly from customers at our storefront. The ideal candidate understands current values, trends, and the buying process, and can assess condition and market demand.

You will evaluate sports cards, Pokémon, Disney, Marvel, and MTG, make competitive offers with proper margins, and work closely with the retail team to organize and price inventory for resale.

Responsibilities

Trading Card Market is looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Retail Buyer to join our team. This role will be primarily responsible for purchasing collectible and trading cards directly from customers at our retail storefront.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of the trading card industry, current market values, product trends, and the buying process. You should be comfortable evaluating large and small collections, identifying cards and products, assessing condition, researching current market pricing, and making competitive purchase offers.

Primary Responsibilities

• Purchase single trading cards and collections directly from customers in our retail store.
• Evaluate cards across multiple categories, including:
• Sports Cards, Pokémon, Disney, Marvel, and Magic: The Gathering
• Accurately assess card condition, rarity, demand, and current market value.
• Research and monitor current market pricing, trends, and product demand.
• Make purchase offers that are competitive while maintaining appropriate margins for the business.
• Explain purchase offers clearly and professionally to customers.
• Build positive relationships with customers and create a professional buying experience.
• Identify desirable cards, collections, and inventory opportunities.
• Stay up to date on new releases, market trends, major sets, players, characters, and collectible products.
• Assist with organizing, processing, pricing, and preparing purchased inventory for resale.

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience purchasing trading cards or collectibles is REQUIRED.
• Strong knowledge of the trading card industry is REQUIRED.
• Demonstrated knowledge of card values, market pricing, and condition standards.
• Experience evaluating and purchasing cards from customers.
• Strong knowledge of at least several of the following: Sports Cards, Pokémon, Disney, Marvel, and Magic: The Gathering.
• Ability to identify cards, sets, parallels, variations, inserts, and other collectible products.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to make quick, informed purchasing decisions in a retail environment.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing to a retail team.
• Comfortable working with high-value merchandise and financial transactions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working as a card buyer, dealer, shop buyer, or in a similar collectibles-related position.
• Knowledge of both modern and vintage trading cards.
• Experience buying large collections or high-value cards.
• Familiarity with major card marketplaces, pricing resources, and industry trends.
• Retail or customer-facing experience.
