Job summary

Micro Center is seeking a self-motivated Retail Buyer with experience in consumer electronics to join our IPSG team in Ohio. You will negotiate with vendors, select top offers, and drive assortments to create the world’s best computer store.

This role requires strong negotiation, analytics, and cross-functional collaboration with web, marketing, and store teams. Our headquarters are in Hilliard, OH, with relocation assistance.

Qualifications

About the Role

Our INTERNATIONAL PRODUCTS SOURCING GROUP is currently seeking a self-motivated, results oriented RETAIL BUYER with experience in CONSUMER ELECTRONICS.

What You'll Do

• Negotiate costs and terms of business with vendors.
• Select and negotiate “Best in Class” hot offers for our customers.
• Select and drive assortments which build the “Best Computer Store in the World”.
• Oversee and manage all vendor activities.
• Select and purchase merchandise including type, quality, source, timing, delivery, mix and promotion for assigned merchandise category.
  • Create and implement plans to maximize gross profit by coordinating sales, gross margin, inventory turnover, cost of promotion and markdowns for assigned category.
• Recommend and direct the development and implementation of category merchandise strategy and tactical plans.
• Coordinate with the Web Development team and Advertising/ Marketing team to maximize merchandising opportunities. Proof ad copy, page layout and design, and ensure web specifications and photos are accurate.
• Develop and communicate effective merchandising programs at store level.
• Participate in evaluating new business opportunities consistent with IPSG’s short and long-term business strategies.
  • Monitor prices with competitors of assigned categories.
  • Forecasts top selling SKU’s for assigned categories (weekly, monthly, quarterly).
• In partnership with the store sales management team, ensure store merchandising standards are executed, including store displays and visual merchandising.
• Collaborate with the following functional partners to achieve business and organization objectives:
  • Distribution & Transportation
  • Stores (Sales & Operations)
  • Web Development
  • Advertising/Marketing
  • Accounting
  • Planning & Allocation

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Retail Merchandising, Marketing or Business preferred.
• A minimum of 5-7 years merchant experience as a Retail Buyer or Associate Buyer, preferably in the Consumer Electronics industry.
• Mandarin Chinese fluency is preferred
• Ability to travel to Asia as needed.
• International purchasing experience a plus.
• Strong negotiation skills needed with a proven track record of establishing and maintaining positive relationship with vendors.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and retail math skills.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy.
• Must be a detail-oriented team player.
• Knowledge of purchasing and forecasting systems required as well as proficiency in MS Office.
