Job summary

Tree House Hardwoods & Millshop in South Burlington, VT is seeking an entry-level retail associate to help run the lumber store. You will assist customers, maintain displays, restock stock, and support daily operations.

Pay ranges from $18 to $22 per hour with an expected 40–45 hour work week, Monday–Friday 8–5, with occasional Saturdays. Training on forklift operation and QuickBooks POS is provided.

Qualifications

• Retail or customer service experience.
• Know-how of wood species and basic woodworking techniques.
• Familiar with woodworking machinery.
• Proficient with computers; knowledge of QuickBooks POS and Google apps is a plus.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Able to lift and maneuver heavy pieces and operate forklift safely.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent service from entry to sale using QuickBooks POS.
• Build relationships to encourage return visits and positive word-of-mouth.
• Answer phone inquiries with knowledge of store, services and products.
• Assist in receiving inventory and restocking displays.
• Keep store clean and organized.
• Deliver orders using company vehicles around Chittenden County.

Job description

Summary of Position

The Tree House Hardwoods & Millshop is a retailer of hardwood lumber, plywood and other related items, along with a milling operation in which we make custom butcherblock countertops, wood parts, mouldings, trim and other custom projects. This is an entry level position in which you will be assisting in the operations of our retail lumber store, including servicing customers, organizing and maintaining displays, restocking materials and cleaning. Pay rate: $18-$22/hr Work week: 40-45 hrs, M-F 8-5, occasional Saturdays

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide excellent service to customers from the point they enter the store to closing the sale (using Quickbooks POS).
• Display a genuine interest in them/their work, using a relationship based approach encouraging return visits, future purchases and positive word-of-mouth promotion.
• Answer and respond to customer phone inquiries for basic store, service and product information, again with excellent relationship based customer service.
• Assist in receiving inventory deliveries, including unloading material (with use of forklift) and restocking displays in the store.
• Ensure the store and merchandise displayed are clean and organized.
• Deliver orders to customers using company supplied vehicles, mostly in and around Chittenden County.

Preferred Qualifications

• Retail, customer service experience
• Experience working with wood either in the construction trades or cabinetry/furniture building, including knowledge of wood species and basic woodworking techniques.
• Familiar with and comfortable around woodworking machinery
• Proficient with computers, knowledge of Quickbooks POS and Google apps a plus
• Hardworking, motivated and eager to learn – self starter with creative problem solving skills
• Solid communication and organizational skills
• Strong math skills – able to calculate board footage (we can teach you)
• Able to lift and maneuver heavy work pieces, including lumber and plywood STRENUOUS AND HEAVY LIFTING REQUIRED. A sheet of plywood can weigh up to 100lbs… and we move a lot of it!
• Able to operate a forklift safely (again, we can teach you)
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Reliable transportation to/from work
