Hotel Salem is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Server to join our Food & Beverage team. You will be the face of our dining experiences, guiding guests through our menus and maintaining high standards in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities include table management, beverage and meal service, up-selling, room service, and taking care of guests from start to finish. TIPs training and excellent hospitality skills are essential.
We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented, and hospitable Server to join our Food & Beverage team at the Hotel Salem. In this role, you will be the face of our dining experiences, providing attentive service, guiding guests through our culinary and cocktail menus, and maintaining high operational standards in a fast-paced environment.
Rate of pay: $6.75/ hour plus tips!!
Beverage & Meal Service: Offer, sell, and obtain cocktail and food orders from guests. Accurately input orders into the POS system for kitchen staff preparation.
Service Execution: Deliver food and beverages promptly once prepared, ensuring guests have everything required for an exceptional dining experience.
Ongoing Guest Care: Periodically check in on assigned tables to anticipate additional needs. Suggest desserts upon completion of the main meal and deliver checks promptly.
Up-selling & Product Knowledge: Maintain complete knowledge of the menu, menu pricing, food composition, daily specials, and proper plating procedures. Use suggestive selling techniques to describe items appealingly and increase check averages.
Room Service & Take-Out: Prepare and deliver room service or take-out orders as requested.
Bussing & Table Setup: Clear dirty dishes and silverware to designated trays. Wipe tables clean, set with fresh linen, glassware, and silverware, and arrange condiments attractively.
Shift Maintenance: Refill all condiments and server station supplies at the end of each shift. Focus efforts on active table service during peak rush periods.
Opening & Closing Work: Execute opening, closing, and side-work duties as assigned by leadership.
Compliance & Marketing: Maintain food and beverage controls (pre-check machine, portion control, liquor control) and strictly follow guidelines outlined in TIPs training. Stay informed about current in-house and company marketing programs.
Meetings: Attend regular staff and hospitality training sessions.
Experience: Prior experience as a restaurant or hotel server preferred.
Legal Age: Must be of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages in Massachusetts.
Training: TIPs certification (or willingness to complete training upon hire).
Skills: Excellent communication, cash handling, POS proficiency, and strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to high-standard hospitality.
Position operates within a hotel/restaurant environment and can be physically demanding.
Requires extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Moderate to frequent computer keying and viewing of POS screens.
Flexibility to work extended shifts during peak hospitality seasons and busy periods.
