Job summary

Summa Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapy Assistant Student for the Akron City campus. This PRN/As Needed position supports the respiratory care team while completing required AMA-approved program competencies.

The role requires active enrollment in an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapist Program in good standing, Ohio license under supervision, and current BLS. You will work within a multi-skilled team, delivering patient-centered care at Summa Health.

Qualifications

Student in good standing in an AMA approved Respiratory Therapist Program.
Current Ohio license to practice Respiratory Care under supervision (limited permit).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Current list of AMA-approved competencies from AMA approved therapist (RRT) program.

Responsibilities

Administers respiratory care therapies and services after competency verification.
Completes department-specific orientation and follows policy responsibilities.
Works under supervision with a focus on patient care and safety.

Summary

Administers selected respiratory care therapies and services after satisfactory completion of specific competencies for the therapies, verified in writing by an AMA approved Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Program and after completion of a hospital and department specific orientation. NOTE: Performs only those responsibilities identified in department policy (Levels and Procedure Responsibilities of Personnel)

Minimum Education

Student in good standing in an AMA approved Respiratory Therapist Program.

Minimum Work Experience

Valid Ohio license to practice Respiratory Care under supervision (limited permit), granted by the Ohio Respiratory Care Board (ORCB)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Current list of approved competencies from AMA approved therapist (RRT) program

Required Skills Knowledge

Ability to work in a multi-skilled team environment
Ability to complete specific assigned work duties with supervision
Ability to position and adjust specific equipment for which a competency has been completed
Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians and other hospital employees
Ability to demonstrate effective time management with daily schedule, individual treatment sessions and non-patient care time
Population-Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
