Job summary

Summa Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for the Akron City campus on a PRN / As Needed basis. You will round patient care areas to locate equipment in need of processing and redistribution, and support licensed therapists in administering respiratory therapies per orders and policies.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, BLS certification within 30 days, and ability to lift and move equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrollment in an Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program within three years of hire is required.
• Current or successful completion of BLS through AHA within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to effectively interact with diverse patient populations with dignity and respect.
• Must be able to lift equipment and move supplies as needed.

Responsibilities

• Rounding of patient care areas to locate respiratory equipment in need of processing and redistribution for patient care.
• Assist and support the clinical activities of licensed Respiratory Therapists under supervision.
• Administer respiratory therapy modalities and interventions per physician orders and hospital policies.

Summary

Under the supervision of a department supervisor, manager or designee performs rounding of patient care areas to locate respiratory equipment in need of processing and redistribution for patient care. Assists and supports the clinical activities of licensed Respiratory Therapists under their direction. Administers a variety of Respiratory Therapy modalities and interventions to patients according to physician order and/or hospital approved policies based on evidenced based guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

• Formal Education Required:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Continued employment is contingent upon enrollment and in good standing in an Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program within three (3) years of hire.
• Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
• Current or successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) within thirty (30) days of hire
• Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
• Level of Physical Demands:
• Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
• Must be able to lift equipment in excess of 35 pounds.
• Must be able to walk long distances while pushing a Work Station on Wheels (WOW) or equipment/supplies.
