Respiratory Therapy Assistant
Respiratory Care
0.30 - 0.90 FTE, 24 - 72 Hours a Pay Period
Days, Hours between 6 am - 6 pm or 7:30 am - 7:30 pm
Weekends: Every Third Weekend
Holidays: Every Third Holiday
*Starting Pay Between $19.00 - $23.75 Based on Experience

Position Overview:

This is a position for a student of Respiratory Practitioner who has partially completed their clinical experience and has completed competencies to reflect the services they will provide. The Respiratory Therapy Assistant (RTA) provides safe, basic respiratory care for patients and families, functioning under the direct supervision of a Respiratory Therapist (RT) in the hospital and clinic setting. Direct supervision means that the RT is immediately available to continually coordinate, direct, and inspect, at first hand the care provided by the RTA. The RTA cannot independently assume duties done by an RT and will not function independently on critical patients. The RTA will focus on the health and wellness of the patient while providing safe, essential respiratory care for patients with the primary goal of assisting the RT while preparing for a career in respiratory care.

  • Completes Winona Health orientation and education requirements and contributes to the Winona Health Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Contributes to assessment by collecting and documenting data at the direction of the Respiratory Therapist. The RTA’s documentation must be verified for accuracy and cosigned each shift by the supervising RT.
  • Assists with formulating and carrying out the patient’s individual plan of care. Creation, assessment, revision, and evaluation of the patient plan of care cannot be delegated to the RTA.
  • The RTA may reinforce education that has already been completed by the Respiratory Therapist.
  • Provides direct patient care and documents interventions. Administers and documents medications under the direct supervision of the Respiratory Therapist.

Skills and Experience:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and enrolled in an Associates or Bachelors Respiratory Practitioner Program
  • Need to be in final year of their program with proof of competencies being signed off with the school
  • Will graduate from the Respiratory Care Practitioner Program and have an active Registration on The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and Minnesota State Registration as a CRT within 15 months of hire
