Qualifications

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification obtained within 90 days of hire.

Job Overview

This role provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing and ventilation support services to both in‑patients and out‑patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric. The Respiratory Therapist – Clinical Respiratory Tech (RT‑CRT) sets up and monitors ventilation, weans oxygen therapy, draws and analyzes arterial blood gases and EKGs, delivers intermittent therapy, and assists with changing artificial airways. Services are provided as ordered by a physician and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Performs routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policy and procedure.
  • Reviews and documents all clinical information regarding each patient.
  • Educates patients and co‑workers on procedures and treatment plans.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures.
  • Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of patients served in the assigned area.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures, requesting permissions and communication style.
Qualifications
Education
  • Required – Associate's Degree.
  • Preferred – Bachelor's Degree.
Work Experience
  • Required – None.
Certifications
  • Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice.
  • Certified as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Very heavy work involves exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time and traveling throughout and between facilities is required. A flexible work schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability) is required. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area and may be exposed to hazardous medications or waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties.
