Summary:

Provides invasive and non-invasive respiratory care under general supervision. Evaluates cardiopulmonary function, treats impairments, assesses treatment effectiveness, and cares for patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies across all age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must be registered by the National Board on Respiratory Care or certified if within six months of graduation from a registry program.
• Must attain RRT credential within 90 days of graduation or hire date.
• Must hold and maintain an active license to practice Respiratory Care in Ohio.
• Maintain Healthcare Provider status in Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association or its affiliate. NRP required for NICU Respiratory Therapists.
• Thorough understanding of all drugs used in respiratory care procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with patients, physicians, and staff.
• Clinical experience in emergency airway management, extubation, tracheotomies, naso- and oro-pharyngeal airways preferred. Competency in ventilator operation, patient assessment, arterial punctures, etc. Experience in ICU, emergency, or specialty areas preferred.
• Complete requirements as per the Clinical Ladder Policy and maintain all certifications used for the ladder.
• Demonstrate behaviors aligned with Mercy Health Partners’ Mission and Core Values.

Education:

• Vocational/Technical Degree in Respiratory Therapy.

Licensure/Certifications:

• Completion of an Ohio Respiratory Care Board-approved Respiratory Therapy program.
• Active license to practice Respiratory Care in Ohio.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Maintain C level provider status. Thorough understanding of drugs used in respiratory procedures.
