Ayden Healthcare of Waterville is currently seeking Respiratory Therapists (RTs).
Position Summary of the Respiratory Therapist (RT):
The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct respiratory care to residents to restore pulmonary function, alleviate pain, and support life by planning and administering medically prescribed respiratory therapy. This is not a traveling position; the setting is in a skilled and long-term nursing care facility.
Qualifications of the Respiratory Therapist (RT):
- Current valid Licensed Respiratory Therapist license issued in the state where the person will practice.
- Thorough knowledge of respiratory techniques and practices.
- Knowledge of specialized procedures and equipment used in the assigned unit.
- Leadership and organizational skills, with a positive attitude and ability to guide nursing staff.
- Up-to-date physical assessment skills and comprehensive knowledge of respiratory principles.
- CPR certification.
- Recent experience in geriatric or rehabilitative nursing preferred.
Essential Functions of the Respiratory Therapist (RT):
- Meet resident goals and needs by conducting pulmonary function tests, assessing evaluations, and interpreting test results; determine treatment plans in consultation with physicians.
- Administer inhalants, operate mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators to support life.
- Perform bronchopulmonary drainage, assist with breathing exercises, and monitor physiological responses such as vital signs and blood gases.
- Evaluate the effects of therapy, noting patient progress, and recommending adjustments.
- Participate in discharge planning with healthcare team members and contribute to patient care conferences.
- Design home exercise programs, instruct patients and families, and recommend assistive equipment and follow-up services.
- Document care services accurately in resident and department records.
- Collaborate with other resident services to ensure comprehensive care.
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections as required.
- Manage conflicts effectively through problem-solving and communication skills.
- Show initiative and seek continuous improvement.
- Address resident and family concerns promptly.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Conduct pulmonary function tests, assess, and interpret results to develop treatment plans.
- Administer and oversee respiratory treatments, including directing aides and technicians.
- Evaluate treatment effects, make necessary adjustments, and complete discharge planning.
