- POSITION PURPOSE
- Assists in and performs therapeutic and diagnostic regimes: medical gases, environmental control systems, mechanical ventilator support, artificial airway insertion, bronchopulmonary hygiene, pharmacological agents related to respiratory care, protocol-driven care, manual resuscitation, airway management, pulmonary rehabilitation, tests and studies of the cardiopulmonary system, physiological specimen collection and data interpretation. Selected RTs may also perform procedures such as insertion and management of endotracheal tubes and vascular access devices after designated training.
- MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
- Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy
- MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- 0 to 3 years
- LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Licensure to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in Wisconsin.
- Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross, or ability to obtain within 6 weeks of hire.
- Current NRP certification or ability to obtain within 6 weeks of hire.
- Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care or eligible to sit for the registry exam.
- Registry Credential must be completed within 12 months of hire.
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care program.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Ability to read, write, hear, speak, and comprehend English.
- PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provide safe aerosolized medication administration.
- Set up, monitor, adjust, and manage patient/ventilator systems.
- Provide artificial airway care, including insertion in emergent situations.
- Administer medical gases and manage environmental control systems.
- Maintain documentation for all diagnostic and therapeutic services.
- Perform spirometric studies (FVC, SVC, MVV).
- Receive and record verbal orders from licensed practitioners.
- Administer medications safely and timely according to policies.
- Insert and manage endotracheal airways after training and competency.
- Provide vascular access on designated patients after training and competency.
