Job summary

Raleigh General Hospital, part of Lifepoint Health, in Beckley, WV, is hiring a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for a full-time role. A $20,000 sign-on bonus is offered to qualified applicants who join our team dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities include measuring lung capacity, delivering therapy as ordered, assessing patient response, educating patients and families, and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

• Must have current Respiratory Therapist licensure to practice in Kentucky.
• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the NBRC.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Three or more years of experience in cardiopulmonary services preferred.

Responsibilities

• Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition.
• Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on outcomes and best practices.
• Responds to codes and emergent calls and delivers appropriate treatment.
• Educates patient and family about illness and resources.
• Maintains respiratory care supplies and equipment.
• Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment; calibrates machines.
• Examines patients and collaborates with physicians to develop treatment plans.

How you'll contribute

• Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.

• Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.

• Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.

• Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.

• Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.

• Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.

• Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.

• Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.

• Examines patients with breathing-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient. Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patients to use medications.

What we're looking for

• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

• High School Diploma/GE or Associate Degree in Science required

• Current Respiratory Therapist Licensure to practice in the state of Kentucky; Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care.

• Current American Heart Association BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire date.

• Three or more years of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services preferred.
