Job Summary:

Provides quality respiratory care utilizing knowledge, professional judgment, and standard principles in cardiopulmonary to promote and maintain health for patients of all ages in accordance with physician orders.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1. Assists patients in accomplishing treatment plans and supports life by administering inhalants; operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
2. Evaluates the effectiveness of respiratory therapy treatment plans by observing, documenting, and assessing patients’ progress; recommends adjustments and modifications to the plans.
3. Documents patient care services by charting in electronic medical records and other department systems.
4. Performs diagnostic procedures including arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, pulmonary function tests, 6-minute walks, etc.
5. Ensures the safe operation of equipment, maintains a clean and safe working environment, and adheres to infection control policies.
6. Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
7. Educates patients on how to use treatments.
8. Performs all other duties as assigned.
