Job summary

WakeMed North/Cary is seeking a Night Shift Registered Respiratory Therapist to evaluate, treat, and manage adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients across diverse clinical settings.

You will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, deliver airway management and oxygen therapy, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes. Sign-on options exist for external candidates, with strong development opportunities in a supportive WakeMed culture.

Qualifications

  • RRT certification and NC Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
  • BLS, ACLS; PALS; NRP certifications as required based on patient population.
  • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Ability to work nights and treat adults, pediatrics and neonatal patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform respiratory assessments and diagnostic procedures.
  • Deliver and evaluate respiratory care treatments per orders.
  • Adjust care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Educate patients and families about care plans.
  • Respond to emergencies with life-saving respiratory support.
  • Document care in the EMR accurately and timely.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an RRT at WakeMed North, you’ll evaluate, treat, and manage adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients with respiratory illnesses and cardiopulmonary disorders across a variety of clinical settings. You’ll play a key role in improving patient outcomes by:

  • Performing comprehensive respiratory assessments and diagnostic procedures
  • Delivering all respiratory care treatments as ordered, including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and airway management
  • Evaluating treatment effectiveness and adjusting care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
  • Educating patients and families to support understanding and continuity of care
  • Responding to emergency situations and providing life‑saving respiratory support
  • Documenting care in the electronic medical record with accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism
