Job summary

Prisma Health seeks a Respiratory Care Practitioner at Blount Memorial Hospital. The role requires supporting invasive and non-invasive ventilation, conducting respiratory therapies per physician orders, and ensuring accurate documentation and education for patients and families.

The candidate must hold a Respiratory Care Practitioner license, BLS, and relevant certifications (NRP/PALS/ACLS as required). Expect collaboration with the health-care team in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Education - Associate degree from an accredited Respiratory Care program.
• License - Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the state of work.
• Certifications - BLS, plus NRP/PALS/ACLS as required by the work unit.

Responsibilities

• Initiates, monitors and manages patients requiring invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
• Performs respiratory therapy procedures per physician's order and policies.
• Obtains blood gases and analyzes/reports results.
• Documents and charges for respiratory care procedures; provides patient/family education.
• Communicates with the healthcare team and provides accurate reports.
• Adheres to infection control standards and cleans/disinfects equipment between patients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician's order and departmental policy. Works independently in all Intensive Care units and critical care settings. Consults with physicians and other personnel and makes recommendations on treatment as appropriate.

Essential Functions

• Performs respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician's order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols.

• Initiates, monitors and manages patients requiring various types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

• Initiates and manages various types of airways and associated equipment.

• Obtains blood gasses from sites. Analyzes and reports results.

• Documents and charges for respiratory care procedures and tasks. Provides patient and family education, as appropriate.

• Communicates with members of the healthcare team to include students and nurse shadows. Provides an accurate and complete report. Makes recommendations as appropriate. Communicates well with supervisors, coordinators, or those acting in lieu of the above.

• Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.

• Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education - Associate degree. Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program by an accredited school

• Experience - No experience defined.

In Lieu Of

• In lieu of education and experience noted above, diploma and/or equivalent experience may be considered.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

• Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the state in which work is performed.

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).

• BLS

• NRP, PALS, ACLS, NPS etc. must obtain and maintain certifications as required by work unit.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include neonates, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
