Job summary

Prisma Health's Blount Memorial Hospital in Tennessee seeks a Respiratory Care Practitioner to independently perform general and critical care respiratory therapy per physician orders and department policy.

The role requires managing invasive and non-invasive ventilation, airway management, ABG analysis, and patient/family education while collaborating with the healthcare team and maintaining infection control standards.

Qualifications

• Education - Associate degree. Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program by an accredited school.
• Licensure: Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the state of work; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
• BLS; NRP, PALS, ACLS as required by work unit.

Responsibilities

• Perform respiratory therapy procedures per physician order and policy.
• Initiate, monitor and manage invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
• Manage airways and related equipment.
• Obtain and analyze blood gases and report results.
• Document and bill for procedures; educate patients and families.
• Communicate with health care team and provide accurate reports.
• Adhere to infection control and quality initiatives.

Job Summary

Performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician’s order and departmental policy. Works independently in all Intensive Care units and critical care settings. Consults with physicians and other personnel and makes recommendations on treatment as appropriate.

Essential Functions

• Performs respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician’s order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols.
• Initiates, monitors and manages patients requiring various types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
• Initiates and manages various types of airways and associated equipment.
• Obtains blood gasses from sites. Analyzes and reports results.
• Documents and charges for respiratory care procedures and tasks. Provides patient and family education, as appropriate.
• Communicates with members of the healthcare team to include students and nurse shadows. Provides an accurate and complete report. Makes recommendations as appropriate. Communicates well with supervisors, coordinators, or those acting in lieu of the above.
• Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

• Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the state in which work is performed.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include neonates, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
