Job summary

The Respiratory Therapist at UVM Health works in the CVPH Pulmonary clinic performing diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gas sampling, oximetry and FeNo testing, while coordinating DSME needs for clinic patients.

The position operates independently under physician guidance, requiring NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist credential and NY licensure within one year; BLS is required, ACLS preferred, and home care/DME experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Respiratory Program per CAER or CAAHEP accreditation is required.
• Credentialed by NBRC as a Registered Respiratory Therapist is required.
• New York State licensure as a Respiratory Therapist or registry-eligible with licensure within 1 year.
• BLS is required and ACLS is preferred.
• NBRC credential as Certified Pulmonary Technologist preferred.
• Home care and DME experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• The Respiratory Therapist performs pulmonary diagnostic tests including pulmonary function, ABG sampling, oximetry and FeNo testing.
• The role coordinates and processes DSME needs for clinic patients and works independently in the CVPH Pulmonary clinic under physician guidance.

Job description

Primary Shift: 6:00am-4:30pm

Secondary Shifts: 7:00am-3:30pm, 7:30am-4:00pm & 8:00am-4:30pm

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of pulmonary diagnostic tests, including, but not limited to pulmonary function, arterial blood gas sampling & oximetery, FeNo testing. In addition to the diagnostic testing a significant component of the position is the coordination and processing of DSME needs for clinic patients. The RRT works independently in the CVPH Pulmonary clinic under the guidance of the pulmonary clinic physicians.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Skills Required:

1. Graduate of an approved Respiratory Program supported by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care or accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs required.
2. Credentialed by NBRC as a Registered Respiratory Therapist required.
3. New York State license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or a Registry Eligible Certified Respiratory Technician and receive NYS licensure as a Respiratory Therapist within one year of hire date required.
4. BLS required and ACLS preferred.
5. Credentialed by NBRC as a Certified Pulmonary Technologist preferred.
6. Experience in home care and DME relevant processes preferred.
