Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and therapies as prescribed by a physician. The role includes patient education, equipment preparation and maintenance, and collaboration with the care team to optimize pulmonary outcomes.

The ideal candidate will hold an accredited respiratory therapist certificate, valid licensure in NY or CT, NBRC CER-RRT registration, and current ACLS/BCLS; NRP is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certificate from accredited respiratory therapist program required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist (LIC-RT) in NY or CT.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (CER-RRT) with NBRC.
• Advanced or Basic Life Support certification required; NRP required.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive respiratory assessment.
• Utilizes assessment data to identify problems.
• Performs bedside pulmonary function studies per physician order.
• Collaborates with physicians on plan of care.
• Evaluates patient responses to respiratory care.
• Delivers care using a standardized process.
• Performs chest therapy to mobilize secretions.
• Assists in pulmonary stress testing as needed.
• Performs suctioning and specimen collection as indicated.
• Implements ventilator management and weaning protocols.
• Performs bronchial hygiene and airway care.
• Collects and interprets ABG/PH gas data; adjusts ventilator accordingly.
• Monitors non-invasive ventilation and gas exchange.
• Assists with transport of ventilated patients with artificial airways.
• Administers oxygen and humidification per order; adjusts ventilator settings.
• Responds to cardiopulmonary emergencies per ACLS/BCLS.
• Provides emergent airway care including intubation per policy.
• Follows infection control and fire safety protocols.
