Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and provide therapy as prescribed. The role includes testing, education, and collaboration with physicians in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities include ventilator management, chest therapy, oxygen administration, and ensuring adherence to infection control protocols. NY State licensure and NBRC-registered status are required.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or equivalent, required.
• Certificate of completion from an accredited respiratory therapist program, required.
• Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.
• Licensed in Respiratory Therapy in NY State, required.
• Registered as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from NBRC, required.
• Advanced or Basic Life Support certification, required.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive respiratory assessment and determine problems.
• Conduct bedside pulmonary function studies per physician order.
• Collaborate with physicians on patient’s plan of care.
• Evaluate patient responses to respiratory care.
• Deliver chest therapy and suctioning as indicated.
• Manage ventilator parameters and weaning protocols.
• Administer oxygen and humidification; monitor gas exchange.
• Assist in transport of mechanically ventilated patients.
• Provide respiratory therapy education to patient and family.
• Complete departmental paperwork and inventory control.
• Adhere to infection control and fire safety protocols.

Education

Associate's Degree or equivalent

Certificate from accredited RT program

Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Licensed in NY Respiratory Therapy

NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist

Advanced or Basic Life Support certification
