Job summary

Jackson Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide patient-centered care within the scope of practice ordered by physicians or protocols. You will assess, educate, and intervene across all age groups while collaborating with the care team in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate has an AMA-approved program background, RRT or CRT, and holds BLS and ACLS credentials; PALS/NRP are preferred. Alabama license required and hospital system proficiency expected.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Alabama respiratory licensing credential.
• Graduation from an AMA-approved respiratory care program.
• RRT or CRT certification; RRT preferred; BLS and ACLS required; PALS/NRP preferred.
• At least 1 year of critical care and neonatal experience is preferred.
• Proficient in using the Hospital Information System and related devices.
• Ability to stand/walk for long periods and assist in patient handling.

Responsibilities

• Perform respiratory care duties within the scope of practice ordered by physician or protocol.
• Assess patients, provide interventions, and educate patients and team members.
• Collaborate with health care team to promote evidence-based practice.
• Follow Jackson Hospital standards and participate in performance improvement.

Job description

Performs under the scope of practice of the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy Chapter 798-X-4. Provides all duties within scope of practice as ordered by physician or protocol and for all age groups as assigned. Promotes best practices in respiratory care through the application of evidenced based medicine involving patient assessment, recommendation, education, intervention and communication with the health care team. Follows Jackson Hospital Standards of performance, works well in a team, supports operations, and performance improvement. Attends required hospital and departmental based education and stays current in field.

AMA-approved program for respiratory care. Prefer 1 year critical care and neonatal experience. RRT or CRT; RRT preferred, BLS and ACLS required, PALS and NRP preferred. Current Alabama License required. Computer skills required for use of Hospital Information System and other devices. Standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, lifting, climbing stairs, maneuvering heavy rolling equipment long distances, assisting hospital staff in positioning and moving patients.
