Job summary

Community Medical Center is seeking a Respiratory Therapist in New Jersey to provide comprehensive cardiorespiratory care. The role involves administering prescribed therapies, assisting in emergent procedures, airway management, and ongoing patient education.

You will work within an interdisciplinary team focused on safety and outcomes. The position requires NJ licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, NBRC certification/registration, and current AHA BLS.

Qualifications

• Current NJ licensure or eligibility as Respiratory Care Practitioner.
• Certification and/or registration by NBRC is required.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Administer respiratory care as ordered and document in patient record.
• Assist during emergency bronchoscopy procedures.
• Intubate and ventilate during emergencies (if certified).
• Extubate patients as ordered by physicians.
• Perform bedside spirometry and weaning parameter checks.
• Perform arterial puncture, analysis, and report results.
• Maintain and calibrate arterial blood analyzers and co-oximeter.
• Provide airway management and suctioning as needed.
• Educate patients, families, and staff as required.
• Respond to Code Blue and perform CPR as needed.
• Set up and monitor oxygen devices, pulse oximeters, capnography, and ventilators.
• Verify orders for accuracy and check contraindications.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

A typical day for a Respiratory Therapist may include:

• Administers respiratory care as ordered by the physician and documents all required information in the patient record.
• Assists during emergency bronchoscopy procedures
• Intubates (if certified) and manually ventilates patients during emergency situations
• Extubates patients as ordered by physicians
• Performs and interrupts weaning parameters and simple spirometry (bedside) as ordered
• Performs arterial puncture, analysis, and reporting of sample results. Interprets results relative to acid-base balance and ventilatory status
• Performs daily preventive maintenance and quality control for arterial blood analyzers and a co-oximeter.
• Provides and maintains the patient's airways (including suctioning and securing endotracheal tubes, tracheostomies, and oral pharyngeal airways)
• Provides appropriate in-service to patients, family, physicians, nurses, and clinical employees as required
• Responds to “Code Blue” and performs CPR as required
• Sets up, operates, monitors, and troubleshoots oxygen delivery devices, pulse oximeters, end-tidal C02 monitors, and ventilators.
• Verifies that physician orders are complete and appropriate and checks for possible contraindications
• Performs all other duties as assigned
