Job summary

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Care with a minimum of a BS in Respiratory Care (or equivalent) MS preferred.
• Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program required.
• Active New Jersey Respiratory Therapist License (RRT).
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Previous experience in an acute care hospital setting and proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assessing patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions, evaluating clinical status, and recommending appropriate therapeutic interventions.
• Administering respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway clearance techniques, and mechanical ventilation management.
• Monitoring patient response to treatment, recognizing changes in clinical condition, and communicating findings to physicians and care team.
• Performing diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas collection, pulmonary function testing, and bedside respiratory assessments as appropriate.
• Educating patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, equipment use, and ongoing respiratory health strategies.
• Documenting assessments, treatments, and patient responses within the EMR for continuity of care.
• Collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Maintaining respiratory equipment and ensuring proper operation while adhering to infection prevention and patient safety standards.
• Pursuing continued professional growth through continuing education and specialty certifications.

A Typical Day For a Respiratory Therapist May Include
