Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions, evaluating status and selecting therapies.
  • Administer respiratory therapies including oxygen, aerosolized meds, airway clearance, and ventilation management.
  • Monitor patient response and promptly communicate changes to physicians and care team.
  • Perform arterial blood gas collection, pulmonary function testing, and bedside assessments as appropriate.
  • Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, equipment, and self-care.
  • Document assessments, treatments, and responses in the EMR to ensure continuity of care.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other health professionals on care plans.
  • Maintain respiratory equipment and adhere to infection control and safety standards.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development through continuing education and certifications.

A typical day for a Respiratory Therapist may include:

  • Assessing patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions, evaluating clinical status, and recommending appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • Administering respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway clearance techniques, and mechanical ventilation management
  • Monitoring patient response to treatment, recognizing changes in clinical condition, and communicating findings promptly to physicians and the care team
  • Performing diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas collection, pulmonary function testing, and bedside respiratory assessments as appropriate
  • Educating patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, equipment use, and strategies to support ongoing respiratory health
  • Accurately documenting assessments, treatments, and patient responses within the electronic medical record to promote continuity of care
  • Collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans

To be considered for this Respiratory Therapist opportunity, you are passionate about delivering high-quality respiratory care while providing reassurance and support to patients and families during critical moments.

  • Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Care with a minimum of a BS, degree in Respiratory Care (or equivalent) MS, preferred.
  • Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program required.
  • You hold an active New Jersey Respiratory Therapist License (RRT).
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • Previous experience in an acute care hospital setting and proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems are preferred.
