Responsibilities: Provides evaluation of and care for respiratory therapy patients. Administers prescribed respiratory therapeutic services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Licensed by the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist - Registered (LRTR), or applicable state where services will be performed, or temporary license if permitted by state regulations.
- Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, and/or other certifications may be required within 30 days of hire based on local hospital requirements. Refer to the list below for specific hospital requirements:
- BARNS: ACLS
- BMC: POCT within 30 days; ACLS, PALS, NRP within 6 months
- CCMC: ACLS in Cardiac Pulmonary Rehab
- GRMC: ACLS
- HARR: ACLS
- JMC: POCT within 30 days; ACLS, PALS, NRP within 6 months
- PCH: ACLS, PALS, NRP, STABLE
- PVH: ACLS
- RMH: NRP
- UHC: ACLS
- UNTWN: ACLS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience: Two (2) years respiratory therapy experience in a hospital setting.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:
- Performs basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients by physician's order.
- Checks, assembles, and performs quality control on respiratory care equipment.
- Initiates, maintains, and discontinues mechanical ventilation for patients of all ages.
- Communicates effectively with healthcare team members regarding patient care.
- Assists with patient and family education.
- Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Performs diagnostic procedures as ordered.
- Maintains professional competency according to standards.
- Demonstrates departmental competencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull 40 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Maintains a safe environment, aware of infection control and environmental factors.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, problem solve, and make decisions.
