Job summary

MedStar Health in Laurel, MD seeks a Respiratory Therapist to provide comprehensive respiratory care across patient populations. The role requires performing ventilator management, bronchodilator therapies, and ABG analysis in a fast-paced acute care setting.

The candidate must hold an AMA-accredited Associate's degree in respiratory care (AAS or higher) and be registry-eligible with Maryland/DC licensure. ACLS/NRP/PALS and CPR certifications are required within one year."

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in respiratory care mandatory; AMA accredited program required; AAS degree or higher.
• Less than 1 year acute care experience; Registry eligible required.
• RCP license to practice in Maryland and/or DC; CRT license required; RRT preferred.
• CPR certification (BLS/NRP) within 90 days; ACLS/NRP/PALS as required within 1 year where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies, safety standards, and regulations.
• Assesses patient dimensions and educational needs and documents.
• Performs all respiratory therapy treatments and services including oxygen, humidity, ventilation, bronchial hygiene, spirometry, EKGs and ABG analysis.
• Uses effective therapeutic communication and crisis-intervention techniques during patient care.
• Reviews EMRs and physician orders; maintains airway and provides ventilation as needed during CPR.
• Strives for workflow efficiency and interdepartmental coordination; follows policies and recommended improvements.
