Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University’s Department of Respiratory Therapy seeks a full-time Respiratory Therapist 2 to provide comprehensive respiratory care for adults, children, and neonates under physician supervision.

The role covers ventilator management, ABG analysis, progress documentation, education of staff, and collaboration with nursing and house staff; coverage may extend across age groups and units.

Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under physician direction.
• Make rounds to ensure patients receive proper respiratory care.
• Conduct ventilator management and monitoring.
• Draw and analyze arterial blood gases.
• Record respiratory progress of ventilated patients.
• Document respiratory status across patient records.
• Assist physicians during cardiorespiratory arrests needing ventilation.
• Provide sputum induction.
• Administer nitric oxide therapy.
• Explain respiratory devices to patients and families.
• Enter respiratory data into patient progress records and hospital systems.
• Assist in education of nursing and house staff.
