Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Therapist 2 Pulmonology to join our team. This is a full-time role with four 9-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, and the position will float between Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Center for Personalized Health.

The ideal candidate will perform PFTs, CPET or stress testing, administer bronchodilators, and document results in the EMR. A CoARC-accredited program, NBRC-RRT or extensive experience, BLS, and within-one-year ACLS/PALS/NRP are

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CoARC respiratory care program.
• Six months in a critical care environment or one year of specialized training in advanced diagnostics/pulmonary rehabilitation.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with NBRC, or 10+ years as a Certified Respiratory Therapist.
• BLS certification from AHA required at start.
• Advanced certifications (ACLS, PALS, or NRP) within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform pulmonary function testing (PFT), including spirometry, lung volumes and DLCO.
• Conduct CPET and stress testing when applicable.
• Administer bronchodilator therapy and assess response.
• Collect and analyze arterial blood gas samples as needed.
• Prepare, calibrate and maintain diagnostic equipment per standards.
• Monitor patients during testing for safety and clinical changes.
• Document results accurately in the EMR.
• Ensure quality control and ATS/ERS-aligned procedures.
• Educate patients on testing procedures and provide clear instructions.
• Collaborate with providers and care teams for decision support.
• Maintain infection prevention and safety in all procedures.

Overview

Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Therapist 2 Pulmonology to join the team. This is a full-time role Monday through Friday, four shifts of nine hours each. Sign-on and relocation bonuses are available. The position will float between Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Center for Personalized Health.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform pulmonary function testing (PFT), including:
  • Spirometry
  • Lung volumes
  • Diffusion capacity (DLCO)
• Conduct cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and/or stress testing (if applicable)
• Administer bronchodilator therapy and evaluate patient response
• Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) collection and analysis (if required)
• Prepare, calibrate, and maintain diagnostic equipment per manufacturer and regulatory standards
• Monitor patients during testing for safety and clinical changes
• Accurately document test results in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Ensure quality control and adherence to ATS/ERS standards and organizational policies
• Educate patients on testing procedures and provide clear instructions
• Collaborate with providers and care teams to support clinical decision-making
• Maintain infection prevention and safety standards in all procedures

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited CoARC (The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory care program
• Six months in a critical care environment or one or more years of specialized training in advanced diagnostics/pulmonary rehabilitation as a practicing Respiratory Therapist
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), or more than 10 years of experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist as defined by NBRC
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA upon start
• Advanced Certifications (ACLS, PALS, or NRP) must be obtained within one year from date of hire
