Respiratory Therapist 3 Pulmonary Diagnostics

Job Description

Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Therapist 3 Pulmonology to join the team. This would be a full‑time position Monday through Friday, four shifts at nine hours per shift. Sign‑on and relocation bonus available. The role will float between Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Center for Personalized Health.

Responsibilities

• Perform weaning mechanics as ordered with high proficiency in more than 90% of ventilator patients cared for.
• Review the need for continuing ventilator support (i.e., spontaneous breathing trial, weaning) in more than 95% of patients cared for with a high degree of proficiency on a daily basis.
• Routinely develop or refine ventilator care plans and communicate to patient care teams.
• Perform tests, collect specimens in addition to dating, validating, and interpreting basic/complex diagnostic testing (e.g., bronchoscopy samples, complex PFTs).
• Validate the quality of the results with high proficiency and minimal supervision. Formulate a respiratory care plan for almost all patients based on patient diagnostic data, response to therapy, and physiological profiles. Integrate respiratory care plans into patients' complete care plans. Establish and recommend therapeutic interventions (e.g., contacting physicians or care teams) with high proficiency and minimal supervision.
• Administer basic and advanced respiratory therapeutic interventions (e.g., heliox, nitric oxide, CNB Chest Wall Oscillation, etc.) with high proficiency and minimal supervision. Establish and manage basic/complex forms of mechanical ventilation (e.g., HFO, NPPV, PRVC, transport) with high proficiency and minimal supervision.
• Utilize standards, guidelines, protocols, and pathways for optimal care delivery. Incorporate data and information to continually improve care and practice to enhance outcomes.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited CoARC respiratory program.
• Two years of critical‑care experience.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with one of the following: ACLS, PALS or NRP. In addition, must possess one of the following: an additional Advanced Certification (ACLS, PALS or NRP) or an Advanced Credential (ACCS, AEC, NPS, RPFT, CPFT or SDS) or a relevant bachelor’s degree.
• BLS from AHA upon start.
• Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Therapist.
