Job summary

Hudson Regional Health is seeking a Respiratory Care Specialist to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care across the continuum. The role includes ventilator management, patient education, and meticulous documentation of therapy and outcomes.

Requirements include graduation from an AMA-approved respiratory care program, NBRC certification, NJ license, and BLS; ACLS/PALS/NRP are preferred. On-site department with standard hospital shifts.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care.
• NBRC certification required; Registry preferred.
• New Jersey Respiratory Care license required.
• BLS - AHA Approved required.
• ACLS & PALS & NRP - AHA Approved preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates continuum of care for patients.
• Maintains patient dignity and confidentiality; acts as a patient advocate.
• Verifies physician orders before therapy; reviews relevant clinical data.
• Selects and uses respiratory care equipment; troubleshoots as needed.
• Administers prescribed therapies including oxygen and ventilator management.
• Documents assessments, education, therapy provided, and ventilation data in the medical record.
• Initiates and manages care for mechanically ventilated patients per protocol.
• Maintains airway patency and provides ventilation during CPR.
• Performs arterial puncture for blood gas analysis.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate continuum of care
• Maintains the dignity/confidentiality of the patient, serves as a patient advocate
• Verifies physician order before performing therapy; reviews pertinent clinical data
• Select, assemble, check for proper function and operation, use and troubleshoot equipment for use in the delivery of respiratory care
• Administers prescribed therapy (oxygen therapy, medication administration, ventilator management) in accordance with department policy and procedure
• Documents in the medical record: patient assessment, patient education, therapy provided, ventilator/Bipap/SI-PAP flow sheet and CarVue
• Initiates, monitors , evaluates and manages care for mechanically ventilated patients according to department protocols
• Maintains a patent airway and provides ventilation during CPR
• Performs arterial puncture to obtain samples for blood gas analysis
• Performs diagnostic related testing such as sputum induction, forced vital capacity, peak flow measurements and pulse oximetry
• Performs maintenance and QC functions as required on ABG analyzers
• Processes respiratory equipment for cleaning and disinfection/ sterilization
• Performs EKG as needed

Education + Experience Requirements

• Graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care
• Certification by the NBRC required; Registry preferred
