Job summary

A healthcare facility is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to monitor patient progress and administer treatments. Job description

Job Summary

Respiratory Therapist helps monitor patient progress and administer breathing treatments based on instructions from the medical team. They may work with patients at various stages of illness. The RT collaborates with other healthcare professionals to develop and carry out a treatment plan and modify the plan as needed.

Essential Functions
  • Provide and administer all aspects of respiratory care therapeutics to inpatients and outpatients
  • Assess therapeutic needs, response, and outcome
  • Recommend modifications and discontinue therapy as appropriate
  • Practice within the scope of service as stated in the Department Policy and Procedure manual
  • Conduct and monitor prescribed therapeutic and diagnostic procedures
  • Maintain artificial and natural airways
  • Perform pulmonary function testing
  • Perform hemodynamic monitoring and other physiologic monitoring
  • Document information in a patient’s medical record and maintain accurate records
  • Communicate assessments and updates with members of the healthcare team
  • Assemble, maintain, and calibrate respiratory therapy equipment
  • Identify and remedy respiratory care equipment malfunctions
  • Communicate with patients and families
  • Educate patients on disease prevention and lung health, and on the use of inhalers and inhalation devices
  • Perform testing to assist in diagnosis, treatment, and research

  • Schedule rotation to ensure adequate staffing across shifts
  • Assist in the orientation of new employees
