Position Overview

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner – PICU to provide respiratory care for pediatric patients and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.

The Respiratory Care Practitioner will apply contemporary respiratory therapy principles to assess patients, assist with treatment planning, and implement respiratory care interventions. The role includes supporting physicians with the delivery and direction of respiratory therapy and providing care for patients requiring respiratory support.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with physicians and nurses to develop and implement patient care plans.


• Provide respiratory therapy services to patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).


• Assist physicians with the delivery and direction of respiratory therapy.


• Perform respiratory assessments and appropriate respiratory care procedures.


• Operate and maintain complex ventilatory support systems, monitoring equipment, and resuscitation devices as qualified.


• Provide oxygen therapy and support respiratory diagnostic procedures.


• Participate in patient assessments and other patient care activities within the practitioner’s qualifications.


• Successfully complete department orientation and required unit-specific orientation programs.


• Maintain safe, effective, and patient-centered respiratory care practices.

Required Qualifications

• Education that meets the requirements for Respiratory Care Practitioner certification, licensure, or registration.


• Active Washington Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License upon hire.


• National Provider BLS – American Heart Association certification upon hire.


• Pediatric/PICU respiratory care experience is highly relevant to this position.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have strong respiratory therapy experience with the ability to provide care in a PICU/pediatric hospital environment. Candidates should be comfortable working with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams and handling respiratory support, monitoring, assessment, and treatment responsibilities.
