Community Memorial Healthcare is seeking a PRN Neonatal Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP III) to provide comprehensive respiratory care in NICU, nursery, L&D and ED. The role requires NICU experience, NASBRC credentials, and ongoing competency maintenance.

Responsibilities include documentation, coordination of staffing in NICU, and continuing education to maintain BLS/NRP/PALS certifications. This position supports the hospital’s NICU services and patient care goals.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited respiratory care program.
  • Completion of the Community Memorial Healthcare NICU Training Program or two years of NICU/Labor & Delivery experience with neonatal intubation competency.
  • Current RCP license issued by the California RCB.
  • Current NBRC RRT credential.
  • Current BLS certification for healthcare providers.
  • Current NRP certification.
  • Current PALS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide neonatal respiratory care in NICU, nursery, L&D, ED and surgical areas.
  • Coordinate staffing in the NICU when needed and act as consultant for NICU respiratory care.
  • Document care, orders, blood gas reports and care plans per department procedures.
  • Maintain education, CEUs and licensure requirements; ensure competencies and safety protocols.

Compensation

Salary Range: $55.50 - $55.50 / hour

The pay range above represents the lowest possible rate for the position and the highest possible rate. Factors that may be used to determine where newly hired employees will be placed in the pay range include the employee specific skills and qualifications, relevant years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most often, a newly hired employee will be placed below the midpoint of the range.

Position Overview

The PRN NICU Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) III provides comprehensive respiratory care to neonatal patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), nursery, Labor and Delivery, Emergency Department, surgical areas, and during patient transport.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited respiratory care program
  • Completion of the Community Memorial Healthcare NICU Training Program or two (2) years of documented advanced-practice clinical experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Labor and Delivery, including demonstrated competency in neonatal intubation
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the Respiratory Care Board of California (RCB)
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Performs all aspects of respiratory care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). In the absence of an RCP IV, the RCP III is responsible for coordinating staffing and addressing technical issues that may arise. Adheres to requests issued by the RCP IV and serves as a consultant for NICU respiratory care as requested.
  • Completes all documentation in accordance with NICU Respiratory Care Services (RCS) department and Community Memorial Healthcare policies and procedures. Provides assessments of patient care provided, physician orders, medical interventions, blood gas reports, respiratory care plans, and interdisciplinary care plans. Assesses and documents shift maintenance logs.
  • Provides all modes of neonatal respiratory therapy in a timely and efficient manner. Assesses patients and communicates with physicians and nursing staff regarding patients' respiratory status.
  • Provides family and staff education; attends department and mandatory organizational educational meetings; maintains continuing education units (CEUs) required for licensure and credentials; and maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications. Completes all mandatory annual competencies, including intubation, ventilators, and procedures.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and performs activities in a professional manner. Supervises and precepts new NICU RCPs and nursing staff, RCP students, and paramedical students when they rotate through the NICU. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills that reflect a positive attitude and commitment to patients and colleagues.
  • Participates in NICU Respiratory Care performance improvement (PI) activities. Reports incidents through the Community Memorial Healthcare notification system and assists with projects, procedures, protocols, and standards of care.
  • Performs routine maintenance and quality assurance testing on blood gas and electrolyte analyzers.
  • Monitors and manages equipment utilized to provide ventilatory assistance when continuous support is required. Appropriately utilizes all mechanical ventilators and modes in the inventory, including high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV), high-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV), inhaled nitric oxide (iNO), and noninvasive ventilation.
  • Sets up, assists with, and cleans equipment required for routine, therapeutic, and emergency intubation.
  • Understands and appropriately responds to emergency pages within the facility.
  • Assesses the need for and return of rental equipment.
  • Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local agency requirements related to NICU respiratory care services, including DNV, California Code of Regulations, Title 22, and hazardous materials and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the NICU Clinical Specialist and/or Respiratory Care Division Manager.
