Respiratory Care Practitioner II (Registered)

From bones to brains, our cutting-edge hospital heals even the most serious injuries, specializing in everything from total joint replacement to spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions. Our 141-bed facility welcomes over 3,000 patients annually. As the state’s largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services, we offer advanced therapies for stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic and sports injuries, among others.

Must be able to work some nights

Working under general supervision with approved protocols or under the order of a licensed independent provider (LIP), the Respiratory Care Practitioner II (Registered) performs clinical respiratory care across all patient types and locations. Responsibilities include selecting appropriate technical interventions to evaluate and treat patients, administering inhaled medications, utilizing specialized ventilation equipment, and performing various respiratory care techniques. Adheres to all department and facility policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage assigned caseload and respond to emergent patient needs: Support all patients under the department’s care as part of a larger team.
  2. Perform respiratory treatments: Administer treatments to adult, pediatric, or neonatal patients, verifying interventions are supported by protocols or LIP orders. Monitor patient responses and collaborate during rounds to adjust treatment plans as needed, complying with regulatory standards.
  3. Administer therapies and manage ventilation: Provide therapeutic and diagnostic gases, aerosolized medications, chest physiotherapy, and invasive/non-invasive ventilation. Adjust ventilation settings based on patient response, and evaluate treatment effectiveness through various assessments.
  4. Document patient care: Record all activities accurately in electronic health records systems.
  5. Participate in quality improvement and training: Contribute to departmental initiatives and assist in training students and staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or Legacy Approved Certificate Program; working toward advanced respiratory credential.
  • One year of experience as an RRT.
  • Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance.
  • Credentialing by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.
