Working under general supervision with approved protocols or under the order of a licensed independent provider (LIP), the Respiratory Care Practitioner II (Registered) executes assignments demonstrating clinical competence in Respiratory Care. This includes selecting accurate technical factors on an individual patient basis to evaluate and provide age-appropriate treatment across all patient types and locations, including cardiopulmonary dysfunction secondary to developmental defects, aging, injury, or disease. Responsibilities involve administering inhaled medications, utilizing specialized ventilation equipment, and performing various respiratory care techniques. Adheres to all department and facility policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage an assigned caseload and respond to emergent patient needs. Function as part of a team to support all patients under the department’s care.
  2. Perform a variety of respiratory treatments for specific patient populations (adult, pediatric, neonatal). Verify interventions are supported by protocol or LIP order. Observe and monitor physical signs, symptoms, behavior, and response to treatments. Collaborate with LIP during patient rounds to determine treatment modifications or discontinuation. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  3. Administer therapeutic and diagnostic gases, aerosolized medications, and chest physiotherapy. Manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, adjusting settings to optimize support. Collaborate with the healthcare team on ventilation adjustments based on patient response. Evaluate treatment effectiveness through imaging, monitor values, and labs. Monitor patient appearance and vital signs, consulting with LIP or senior practitioners as needed.
  4. Document patient care activities accurately in electronic health records systems.
  5. Contribute to performance improvement initiatives and participate in training and education activities for staff and students.

Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or Legacy Approved Certificate Program; working toward advanced respiratory credential.
  • One year of experience as an RRT.
  • Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance.
  • Credentialing by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.
