Under general supervision and following approved protocols or the orders of a licensed independent provider (LIP), the Respiratory Care Practitioner II (Registered) performs clinical respiratory care. This includes selecting appropriate technical interventions tailored to individual patients to evaluate and provide age-appropriate treatments across all patient types and locations. Responsibilities include managing patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction due to developmental defects, aging, injury, or disease, administering inhaled medications, utilizing specialized ventilation equipment, and performing various respiratory care techniques. The practitioner adheres to all departmental and institutional policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manages an assigned caseload and responds to emergent patient needs, functioning as part of a team to support all patients under the department’s care.
  2. Performs a variety of respiratory treatments for specific patient populations (adult, pediatric, neonatal), verifying all interventions are supported by protocols or LIP orders. Observes patient responses and collaborates with LIP during rounds to adjust treatment plans as needed, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  3. Administers therapeutic and diagnostic gases, aerosolized medications, and chest physiotherapy. Operates invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, adjusting settings to optimize support, and collaborates with the healthcare team on ventilation adjustments based on patient response. Evaluates treatment effectiveness through various assessments and monitors patient vital signs and appearance.
  4. Documents patient care activities accurately in electronic health records systems.
  5. Contributes to quality improvement initiatives and participates in training and educational activities for students and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree or approved certificate program; working toward advanced respiratory credentials.
  • At least one year of experience as an RRT.
  • Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance.
  • Credentialing as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Compensation:

  • Pay Range: $35.08 - $52.64
