Job summary

Emory Healthcare in Atlanta is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to work in inpatient and outpatient clinical departments. Responsibilities include maintaining competencies, assessing unit work, and participating in interdisciplinary discussions for patient care.

Job description

Overview

This role defines the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) who serves as a clinician in both inpatient and outpatient clinical departments. The RCP employs evidence‑based practice, supports department and service area initiatives, and develops professionally. They adhere to Emory Behavioral Standards and Service Culture Guidelines, provide patient and family centered care, and consistently meet departmental and hospital quality & safety goals.

Responsibilities
  • Complete and maintain all competencies; refer and guide others in the use of policies and procedures; assure competence in new areas; ensure equipment is functioning properly and ready for emergent situations, removing items from service and reporting failures as needed.
  • Assess unit work, report to supervisor/charge, anticipate needs; participate in patient round discussions; identify alternative methods of therapy or mechanical ventilation; demonstrate competence in clinical areas as appropriate; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Suggest modifications to care for the patient care team; acquire resources not readily available; serve as a resource for ventilator management; attend department meetings (75%) and services and educational offerings regularly.
  • Partner in product evaluation and selection; review policies and procedures to guide practice; attend at least one local, state, or national respiratory conference every two years; complete 10 CEUs annually.
Qualifications
  • Minimum education: Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care.
  • Minimum experience: New graduate to 2 years experience.
  • Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as an active Respiratory Care Practitioner in Georgia; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care; preferred membership in the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC).
  • Other requirements: BLS required; ACLS required for adult critical care within 6 months of hire; NRP required for special care nursery/NICU.
  • Physical requirements: Lift up to 50 lbs; carry objects up to 25 lbs; regular standing & walking, occasional sitting; eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); physical demands may vary by work area and tasks.
Environmental Factors

Workplaces may involve exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, bio‑hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, and travel. Personal protective equipment, including respirators, may be required.
