Overview

Job Summary: Administers, plans, and directs activities of the department providing diagnostic testing and treatment of patients. Establishes policies and procedures and provides direction for treatment, purchasing, safety procedures, and personnel utilization. Maintains statistics. Directs departmental educational programs and professional activities.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the human resources of respiratory care to promote compliance with approved standards.
  • Evaluates, coaches, and counsels appropriate personnel according to established hospital policies.
  • Monitors timeliness of all employee evaluations within the department.
  • Interprets hospital policies, procedures, monitors staff adherence, and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Assures staff competence and compliance with regulatory agencies, especially state licensure.
  • Prepares and monitors compliance of the annual budget within established time frame and reports variances to the area director.
  • Reviews, analyzes monthly expenses, and reports any significant variances to the area director.
  • Evaluates and/or adjusts resources to achieve planned budgetary outcomes.
  • Monitors new supply item requests for efficacy and cost evaluation.
  • Reviews assignments of respiratory care personnel according to expertise and patient needs.
  • Assures quality monitoring and appropriateness of quality indicators for current patient populations.
  • Implements and monitors therapist-driven protocols.
  • Assures employee competence, physician satisfaction and utilization, and quality monitoring.
  • Monitors and facilitates patient safety during implementation of advancements in technology.
  • Assures that patients are scheduled in an appropriate time frame and that the proper resources are available.
  • Interacts and communicates with staff, patients, medical staff, and other departments to resolve problems and promote continuity of care.
  • Facilitates groups of department personnel to address identified problems and work toward team solutions.
  • Participates in intra- and interdepartmental committees.
  • Works with other departments to improve patient care, develop new programs, and communicate innovative solutions to problems.
  • Ensures that all personnel in the department are provided with appropriate orientation, in-service training, and continuing education.
  • Monitors departmental education and holds at least monthly staff meetings.
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth.
  • Decision Making: Carries out non-routine procedures under constantly changing conditions, in conformance with general instructions from supervisor.
  • Working Relationships: Direct supervision of others - No. of people supervised: 140.
  • Prepares and gives performance evaluations.
  • Works directly with patients and/or customers.
  • Works with internal customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction.
  • Works with external customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction.
  • Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
  • Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
Skills & Experience
  • Three (3) - four (4) years of related experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of general disease state management processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of all facets of respiratory treatment and technology.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numerical data.
  • Advanced PC skills as required for electronic order entry and clinical documentation and data review.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.
Education
  • Required Education: Completion of AMA approved Respiratory Care program.
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor\'s Degree in Science or Business.
Certification & Licensure
  • Valid Oklahoma License for Respiratory Care.
  • RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist Credential.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 2 months of hire.
